Why do our politicians think that the guns laws are not tough enough and would making them tougher prevent what has been happening?<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But first here are some facts from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradycampaign.org\/key-gun-violence-statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brady Campaign<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong><i>Every Day on Average (all ages)<\/i><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>Every day, <\/i><strong><i>315 people<\/i><\/strong><i> in America are shot in murders, assaults, suicides &amp; suicide attempts, unintentional shootings, and police intervention.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>Every day, <\/i><strong><i>93 people<\/i><\/strong><i> die from gun violence:\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>32 are murdered<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>58 die from suicide<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>1 killed unintentionally<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>1 killed by legal intervention<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>1 died but was intent unknown<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>Every day, <\/i><strong><i>222 people<\/i><\/strong><i>\u00a0are shot and survive:<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>164 injured in an attack<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>10 survive a suicide attempt<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>45 shot unintentionally<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>3 are shot in a legal intervention<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">These numbers are quite eye opening, at least for me if not you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The following map is from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunviolencearchive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gun Violence Archive<\/a>&#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mass-shootings-2017.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2258\" src=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mass-shootings-2017.jpg\" alt=\"Mass shootings\" width=\"754\" height=\"496\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mass-shootings-2017.jpg 754w, http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Mass-shootings-2017-300x197.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">This shows where mass shootings have taken place for this year. Here is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gunviolencearchive.org\/query\/0484b316-f676-44bc-97ed-ecefeabae077\/map\">link<\/a> from the same organization that is a little more informative and is a little more scary, at least for me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">My point is that gun violence is a lot more than it should be, but what are the causes? Well it seems to many politicians that the gun laws we now have need to be strengthened. But how they do not agree on and for me are they even looking at realistic solutions that will actually fix this set of problems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Point one that we can never totally outlaw guns. The right to bear arms is in our Constitution, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/second_amendment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> Amendment <\/a>and also guns culture are thoroughly ingrained in our culture. The Supreme Court has ruled that Americans most emphatically have a right to own guns and no state, local or federal law can take that away. Yet with all the killing going on by those using guns (illegal owned mostly) there has been no agreement on exactly what would work. Read this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2016\/03\/whats-the-solution-to-gun-violence\/462537\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article by The Atlantic<\/a>, it is very informative and it talks about solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Some politicians want to use technology to make it impossible to fire a gun if you are not its owner and others want to use computer databases to make sure that guns do not get into the hands of those who should never have them. I am in favor of the latter because I can not see how all the guns already out there could be retrofitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Would making the guns laws tougher help, yes and no. It would make it harder for those who want to own a gun legally and yet it would make no difference to the criminals ( and mentally ill) who can find guns easily enough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia,palatino,serif; font-size: 18pt;\">What I think is needed is to enforce the laws already on the books with vastly better interactive communication between the federal law enforcement agencies and local authorities. For example the shootings in a Texas church have put a spotlight on the fact that the Navy did not tell the FBI about the shooter&#8217;s conviction which should have prevented him from buying the rifle he used to kill 26 people.
