Goodbye and welcome is the theme of today’s blog. On <\/span>Tuesday Governor Murphy was put into office and ex-governor Christie was out. So I thought that a song might be appropriate for ex-governor Christie. The song comes from Tony Bennett Lyrics<\/a> and was called “Toot, Toot, Tootsie! (Goodbye)” may the original writers of\u00a0 this song not\u00a0 turn over in their graves from what I have done with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope that you enjoyed my parody and now onto some serious business. Governor Murphy has already signed two executive orders. The first is equal pay for women and the second is about ethics and standards for the administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Per NJ.com<\/a>, “Phil Murphy’s first official action as New Jersey governor was to sign an executive order Tuesday to support equal pay for women by barring managers in state government from asking job applicants about their previous salary.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The order is in support of\u00a0equal pay for women and stretches across all public jobs, Murphy said. The Democrat ‘argued the measure will help close the pay gap between men and women in the state.<\/em>” A laudable first step towards pay equality for women that now needs the legislature to produce a bill with the same sentiment.<\/span><\/p>\n

His second executive order about ethics and standards stated<\/a> that “there will be tightened restrictions for the Governor, Cabinet members, and Executive Staff on receiving gifts and fewer loopholes for upgrades or giveaways.<\/em>” Again this is something that was a long time in coming and needs to be put into law instead of just an executive order.<\/span><\/p>\n

Murphy has made clear his agenda and we will have to wait to see if he can push for what he wants.<\/span><\/p>\n
