But will Mexico really pay for it?<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/border-issues\/2018\/01\/18\/president-donald-trump-plans-border-wall-never-changed\/1043924001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> this earlier this year, \u201c<i>&#8230;.The Wall will be paid for, directly or indirectly, or through longer term reimbursement, by Mexico, which has a ridiculous $71 billion dollar trade surplus with the U.S. The $20 billion dollar Wall is \u201cpeanuts\u201d compared to what Mexico makes from the U.S. NAFTA is a bad joke!<\/i>\u201d Mexico has said that it will not pay for such a wall and it seems that our president is determined that they will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Trump said \u201c<i>during a Kansas City rally in December 2016 that &#8220;only&#8221; 1,000 miles of new barrier would be needed. &#8220;A lot of natural barriers that are extremely tough to get across&#8221; would take care of the rest of the nearly 2,000-mile southwest border<\/i>.\u201d Why the president seems to think that natural barriers will stop illegal immigration when many have crossed desert areas to reach the United States is an enigma to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">I can not understand why a wall, no matter how high tech it is, will prevent those who are determined to cross into the United States. For the more motivated you are, the more you will work on a solution to the problem and thus someone will eventually figure out how to defeat any of the methods that the wall might present. In fact the more dependent the protection of our boarders becomes on the use of non-human protection then it will then be less reliable and be unable to prevent those determined individuals from breaching it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Mexico&#8217;s Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray said on Twitter, &#8220;<i>We reiterate what we have said many times: Mexico will not pay, in any way, for a wall along the border in U.S. Territory. This determination is not part of a Mexican negotiation strategy, but rather a principle of sovereignty and national dignity.<\/i>&#8221; Our president needs to recognize that we need to work with the Mexican government rather than causing Mexicans to be embarrassed by our requests to pay for a wall to keep out illegals and those who might be terrorists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">What should we do is a question beyond the scope of those who do not understand the complex path we are on with our neighbor to the south.
