\"Potholes\"<\/a><\/p>\n

With all the potholes forming this Spring I thought that a little poem would be appropriate. I based it on “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.<\/a> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Charge of the potholes<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Half a mile, half a mile,<\/span><\/p>\n

Half a mile onward,<\/span><\/p>\n

All in the roadway of Craters<\/span><\/p>\n

Rode the driver.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cForward, the little car!<\/span><\/p>\n

Dodge the potholes!\u201d he said<\/span><\/p>\n

Into the roadway of Craters<\/span><\/p>\n

Rode the driver.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cForward, the little car!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Was there a person dismayed?<\/span><\/p>\n

Not though the driver knew<\/span><\/p>\n

Someone had blundered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Theirs not to reason why,<\/span><\/p>\n

Theirs but to crash and cry.<\/span><\/p>\n

Into the roadway of Craters<\/span><\/p>\n

Rode the driver.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Potholes to right of them,<\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes to left of them,<\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes in front of them<\/span><\/p>\n

Crashing and damaging;<\/span><\/p>\n

Pelted at with by stones and tar,<\/span><\/p>\n

Boldly the driver rode and well,<\/span><\/p>\n

Into the jaws of Wreckage,<\/span><\/p>\n

Into the mouth of hell<\/span><\/p>\n

Rode the driver.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Flashed all the lights glaring bright,<\/span><\/p>\n

Flashed as they avoided the potholes<\/span><\/p>\n

Dodging the potholes here and there,<\/span><\/p>\n

Charging a light, while<\/span><\/p>\n

All the drivers wondered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Plunged in the roadway dust<\/span><\/p>\n

Right through the potholes they rode;<\/span><\/p>\n

Men and Women<\/span><\/p>\n

Reeled from the bouncing<\/span><\/p>\n

Wheels shattered and flattened.<\/span><\/p>\n

But they rode on, but not without damage.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Potholes to right of them,<\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes to left of them,<\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes in front of them,<\/span><\/p>\n

Potholes behind them<\/span><\/p>\n

They Bounced and broken,<\/span><\/p>\n

While driver and wheels went round.<\/span><\/p>\n

The driver that had fought so well<\/span><\/p>\n

Came through the jaws of Death,<\/span><\/p>\n

Back from the mouth of hell,<\/span><\/p>\n

All that was left of the car,<\/span><\/p>\n

Left of the car. Wheels flattened and sundered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Then the driver rode on, but not<\/span><\/p>\n

Not the little car.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When can the glory fade?<\/span><\/p>\n

O the wild dodging it made!<\/span><\/p>\n

All the other drivers wondered.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the little car came to a stop!<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor the dodging the little car made!<\/span><\/p>\n

Honor the driver,<\/span><\/p>\n

Embolden the New Jersey driver!<\/span><\/p>\n

And they all yelled,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFix the god dam potholes now!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

May your car not suffer the fate of being damaged from an encounter with a pothole. So stay safe and remember “The charge of the potholes.” The little car and driver gave their all.<\/span><\/p>\n
