{"id":2569,"date":"2018-04-26T15:54:51","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T19:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/?p=2569"},"modified":"2018-04-26T15:54:51","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T19:54:51","slug":"murphy-and-the-state-workers-union","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/26\/murphy-and-the-state-workers-union\/","title":{"rendered":"Murphy and the state workers union"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/opps.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2546\" src=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/opps.jpg\" alt=\"opps\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/opps.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.musingsbymichael.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/opps-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Murphy and the state workers union have come to an agreement for a contract.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/news\/new-jersey\/2018\/04\/24\/nj-state-workers-pay-raises-cost-taxpayers\/536431002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NorthJersey.com<\/a>, \u201c<i>The agreement includes a pair of 2-percent raises for all workers and compensates them for the years-of-service pay bumps the Christie administration froze when talks about a new contract <a href=\"http:\/\/cwanj.org\/state-worker-bargaining-report-712015\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed to get off the ground<\/a>\u00a0in 2015<\/i>.\u201d This information came from the Communications Workers of America website, as it seems Governor Murphy did not want to give out what agreement he and the union came to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">That might sound nice to the state workers and their union, but my problem and yours is question where is the money going to come from to pay for this? So far our governor has been more or less silent on how the state can afford to do this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">In my humble opinion our not so smart governor has again put the cart before the horse and only thought about how the state workers have not had a raise in about three years. I must say that without a concrete plan to help the state pay for these salary increases the only possible solutions are to raise some tax or to borrow money. Neither is desirable or reasonable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The people of this state are already paying way too much in taxes and fees, so I think that if the governor wants to give state workers more money it should come out of any monies that he has direct control over. If Murphy can not do that, then he should rescind the agreement because the state can not afford to go into more debt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">It is time our esteemed governor realizes that he can not tax the people to pay for the things he wants.
