It would be a branch of the military.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Per <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/us-space-force-will-challenge-russia-china-military-power-beyond-world-984551\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NewsWeek<\/a>, \u201c<i>Trump <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/trump-space-force-military-branch-982276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced Monday<\/a> that he would instruct the Defense Department to begin working on the so-called &#8220;Space Force&#8221; that would be &#8220;separate but equal&#8221; to the U.S. Air Force. The Republican leader argued that the planned sixth branch to the military was necessary to avoid &#8220;China and Russia and other countries leading us.&#8221;<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>&#8220;When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space. We must have American dominance in space. So important.<\/i>&#8220;\u201d Moreover, \u201c<i>Trump is not alone in advocating for a greater military focus on space. Last June, the\u00a0House Committee on Armed Services voted on a proposal to include the &#8220;U.S. Space Corps&#8221; in this year&#8217;s National Defense Authorization Act, but the move was opposed by the various military leaders and later dropped in favor of boosting support for the existing U.S. Air Force Space Command<\/i>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">By international treaty, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unoosa.org\/oosa\/en\/ourwork\/spacelaw\/treaties\/introouterspacetreaty.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">basic framework on international space law<\/a> includes the following principles:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>the exploration and use of outer space shall be carried out for the benefit and in the interests of all countries and shall be the province of all mankind; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>outer space shall be free for exploration and use by all States; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>outer space is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>States shall not place nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies or station them in outer space in any other manner; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>the Moon and other celestial bodies shall be used exclusively for peaceful purposes; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>astronauts shall be regarded as the envoys of mankind; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>States shall be responsible for national space activities whether carried out by governmental or non-governmental entities; <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>States shall be liable for damage caused by their space objects; and <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><i>States shall avoid harmful contamination of space and celestial bodies. <\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Just look at the third principle which makes it clear that no one country can own outer space.
