Et tu, Bernie? For those who do not know this famous phrase that comes from the play Julius Caesar<\/a>, by William Shakespeare. Caesar utters these words as he is being stabbed to death, having recognized his friend <\/i>Brutus<\/i><\/em> among the assassins.<\/i> In English \u201cEven you, Brutus<\/em>?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Why am I bringing this up, well there have been complaints against Senator Sanders of sexual harassment and gender pay inequality during his Presidential campaign by women on his campaign staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Per Politico<\/a>, \u201cSen. Bernie Sanders apologized late Wednesday to female staffers who have said they endured sexual harassment and gender disparity while working on his 2016 presidential campaign, while also saying he was previously unaware of such allegations.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore POLITICO \u201crevealed that more than two dozen women and men who worked on Sanders\u2019 2016 campaign sent a letter last Sunday to senior Sanders officials asking for a meeting to \u201cdiscuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment on the 2016 campaign, for the purpose of planning to mitigate the issue in the upcoming presidential cycle.\u201d<\/i>\u201d So I have to ask why the senator has not addressed these allegations earlier and only waited till his own people complained?<\/span><\/p>\n

From the New York Times<\/a>, \u201cIn February 2016, Giulianna Di Lauro, a Latino outreach strategist for Senator Bernie Sanders\u2019s presidential operation, complained to her supervisor that she had been harassed by a campaign surrogate whom she drove to events ahead of the Democratic primary in Nevada.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

She said the surrogate told her she had \u201cbeautiful curly hair\u201d and asked if he could touch it, Ms. Di Lauro said in an interview. Thinking he would just touch a strand, she consented. But she said that he ran his hand through her hair in a \u201csexual way\u201d and continued to grab, touch and \u201cpush my boundaries\u201d for the rest of the day.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI just wanted to be done with it so badly,\u201d she said.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

When she reported the incident to Bill Velazquez, a manager on the Latino outreach team, he told her, \u201cI bet you would have liked it if he were younger,\u201d according to her account and another woman who witnessed the exchange. Then he laughed.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Accounts like Ms. Di Lauro\u2019s \u2014 describing episodes of sexual harassment and demeaning treatment as well as pay disparity in Mr. Sanders\u2019s 2016 campaign \u2014 have circulated in recent weeks in emails, online comments and private discussions among former supporters.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The senator has apologized and stated that he was too busy to take note of such allegations. Well it is time for those of the Me Too movement to stand up and say what happened was wrong and was ignored by the man who claims to be for a woman’s right to nondiscrimination based on sex.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is time for Sanders to reevaluate what happened and then to do something about it before moving forward with any political ambition(s).<\/span><\/p>\n
