Today is D-Day! Well it is actually the 75th<\/sup> anniversary of it. So this blog will talk about it so that we never forget.<\/span><\/p>\n

On June 6th<\/sup> 1944 Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy France to begin to take away from the Nazi (German) army the conquered lands that were lost in the Battle of France<\/a> in May 1940. The German army used the blitzkrieg<\/a> (lightning war) attack to destroy the armies of Britain and France. What was left of the British army escaped at Dunkirk<\/a> with the bulk of its men, but leaving behind vast amounts of arms and equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

From History<\/a>, \u201cWithout the brilliant planning and heroic sacrifices of the D-Day invasion, the Allies may have never defeated the Nazi forces in Europe. On June 6, 1944, more than 156,000 American, British and Canadian troops stormed 50 miles of Normandy’s fiercely defended beaches in northern France in an operation that proved to be a critical turning point in\u00a0World War II.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

There were many casualties and here are the facts from CNN<\/a>, \u201cOn D-Day alone, 4,414 Allied troops were confirmed dead, with more than 9,000 wounded or missing.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

The precise number of German casualties on the day is unknown, but they are estimated to be between 4,000 and 9,000.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

OK, now that I have started to bore you here is the lesson I want you to take from all these sacrifices- That in order to have our freedom someone from the military will always have to sacrifice something. Be it their life, a limb, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

So try to do the following for the next week or two. If you know of someone who has served in the military, whether they served during a war or not go tell them how much you appreciate their service. Also do this when you see a member of the military in uniform and I just about guarantee you will at least make their day. Remember that without them we would not be the nation we are.<\/span><\/p>\n

To all the veterans of D-Day I say thank you for what you sacrificed to keep us free. And to the rest of the veterans and active military members, thank you for your service! I do appreciate the fact that you have or are serving the American people. Keeping us safe is very important to me and all of us, again thank you!<\/span><\/p>\n
