Governor Murphy says he will sign it by the Sunday deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northjersey.com\/story\/news\/new-jersey\/2019\/06\/27\/nj-shutdown-2019-murphy-says-he-avoid-shutdown-and-sign-budget\/1585201001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Murphy said<\/a> that, &#8220;<i>Going into our July Fourth holiday, I\u00a0cannot and I\u00a0will not subject our residents to the inconveniences they would suffer under a government\u00a0shutdown. I want our families to know that come Monday, July 1 our investments in them will be made without delay and that state services will be available to them.<\/i>&#8220;<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">It seems that Murphy and Sweeney are at loggerheads and we the people that elected them are just pawns in a political game of chess. Sweeney wants a new school funding plan and Murphy wants his Millionaire&#8217;s tax.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/politics\/2018\/06\/is_nj_really_headed_for_another_shutdown_heres_a_l.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NJ.com<\/a>, \u201cstate Senate President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/topics.nj.com\/tag\/stephen-sweeney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stephen Sweeney<\/a>\u00a0introduced\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/education\/2018\/05\/nj_school_funding_sweeney_murphy_underfunded_overf.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a new school funding plan.<\/a>\u00a0And he let all of Trenton know the lengths he would go to in order to get his way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u201cIf I don\u2019t get school funding fixed \u2014 I shut government down last year because of it \u2014 I\u2019m willing to do it again,\u201d Sweeney, D-Gloucester,\u00a0said at a Statehouse news conference in Trenton.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Governor Murphy has blinked in this budget game of brinkmanship, but I think by blinking Murphy has shown who cares more for how the people of New Jersey are treated by the government. Sweeney just wants his way and nothing else. Not a good thing for us taxpayers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u201c<i>Murphy\u00a0wants to increase\u00a0the state&#8217;s\u00a0millionaires tax and its sales tax. He would spend these new dollars on schools, government worker pensions, transit, property tax relief, tuition-free community college and some other programs that benefit low-income families.<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/politics\/2018\/06\/is_nj_really_headed_for_another_shutdown_heres_a_l.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sweeney said<\/a> that, \u201c<i>&#8220;Change has to happen in New Jersey, and it&#8217;s not gonna happen by just raising taxes,&#8221; Sweeney said during his own March radio interview.\u00a0&#8220;We have to focus on (reducing) the cost of government just as much on the revenues.&#8221;<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">So we the people of New Jersey are caught between the Governor and the legislature. I think that the only two things that have in common is wanting to give property tax relief and help low income families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Sweeney seems to now be trying to forge his own course separate from the governor and Murphy has now come to the conclusion that he must fulfill his campaign promises. While Murphy is the most powerfully endowed governor, Sweeney has a much bigger political support base plus he has the backing of South Jersey political boss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=5&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjlt4GPtIrjAhUlwVkKHd-vDTgQFjAEegQIAhAB&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FGeorge_Norcross&amp;usg=AOvVaw38Vay_ZkA-6IDTAbC7QcC7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Norcross<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Will the people of New Jersey be the winners or losers in this battle?
