The red light camera program is dead. Which pilot program? The red light camera program! Ding Dong! The red light program is dead.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The era of the red light cameras came to an end in New Jersey at midnight December 16<sup>th <\/sup>2014, may those who wanted them and still do not realize that it was all a five year rip-off of the driving public. It was never about safety and all about how much money that could be made! The vendors and the public entities who profited from them are still trying to convince us that they made intersections safer. If you believe what they say, that the cameras prevent red light running, I feel sorry for you.<!--more--><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>In reality the red light cameras do not prevent anything and are there only make money from what they thought was an unsuspecting driving public. Most of the tickets issued were for right on red violations and not from running a red light. To make matters even worse was the fact that there were different definitions of what a full stop is. Each municipality\/city\/town can under New Jersey law can set the time you have to be stopped before making a right on red to whatever they want, while all the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.state.nj.us\/mvc\/Vehicle\/moving_to_nj\/traffic01.htm\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey Motor Vehicle Code<\/a> says is \u201cThis is permitted after you have come to a complete stop unless prohibited by a sign\u201d and says nothing about how long. Many of these public entities came up with ridiculous amounts of time you had to be stopped and if you didn\u2019t you would get a ticket, even if you were off by 1\/10<sup>th<\/sup> of a second.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>A number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/traffic\/index.ssf\/2014\/12\/as_red_light_cameras_go_dark_was_it_a_boon_for_saf.html\" target=\"_blank\">rear end collisions<\/a> resulted from drivers becoming scared of getting a ticket by jamming on their brakes when a traffic light would be changing from green to yellow with the result of the person behind them running into them. Was it not a wonderful thing that our legislature did when they implemented this pilot five year long program\/rein of terror? Not, I say as do the majority of New Jerseyans who fought the good fight and have won for now at least.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>I must make mention of Assemblyman Declan O&#8217;Scanlon of Monmouth County who stood up and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.declanoscanlon.com\/stop-the-red-light-cameras\/\" target=\"_blank\">said that<\/a> \u201cRed light cameras don\u2019t improve safety.\u00a0 We know this from decades of data collected throughout the US and Europe.\u00a0 If you watch the videos of people causing major accidents at intersections virtually all of them are not caused by scofflaws choosing to blindly run red lights\u201d and that is a truth that the red light camera vendors want to be kept a secret! Assemblyman take a bow, we the driving public owe you a debt of gratitude. I also should mention the Mayor of Brick, John Ducey, who ended the era of these cameras when he took office and <a href=\"http:\/\/nj1015.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Gearhart of 101.5 FM<\/a> who fought the good fight to have these cameras removed. Kudos to all three of them and the many others who helped to end this insidious program! And a raspberry to those who still want these cameras!!<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, wants to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/essex\/index.ssf\/2014\/12\/baraka_essex_legislators_say_red_light_cameras_promote_safety.html\" target=\"_blank\">reinstate these cameras<\/a> because of the loss of revenue from them can not be replaced. At least that is what he said at first and now says he was misquoted. No Mister Mayor, you and a number of others want this stupidity to continue. And get this now there is a call for speed cameras!
