Letter to Iran from Gang of 47<\/em><\/a>, do not count on any honoring of any commitment from the next administration. In other words we don\u2019t care what Obama says, we believe that a Republican will be the next president and any treaty or agreement made will not be honored. Have they not heard of the separation of powers<\/a>?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Those from the Congress who wrote that very dumb letter are only one third of the government. The other two are the Executive Branch, which is the President, and the Judiciary, the Federal Courts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The Gang of 47<\/em> as I will now call them are 47 of the United States Senate’s 54 Republicans who signed an open letter to Iran’s leaders warning that any nuclear pact they cut with President Obama could expire the day he leaves office.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Our Secretary of State met with Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in LAUSANNE, Switzerland. And stated to the press<\/a> on Sunday, “I’m not going to apologize for the, for an unconstitutional, un-thought out action by somebody who’s been in the United States Senate for 60-something days.” The letter was authored by the junior Republican Senator from Arkansas, Tom Cotton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kerry further decried, in an interview on the CBS news program \u2018Face the Nation<\/a>\u2019, called the letter a “calculated” attempt to “interfere” with negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and continued by saying that “It specifically inserts itself directly to the leader of another country saying, ‘Don’t negotiate with these guys because we’re going to change this.\u2019” Kerry was the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee before becoming Secretary of State for the Obama administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Cotton and the rest of the Gang of 47<\/em> seem to forget that they should not be interfering with the constitutional powers assigned to the Executive Branch. It is not in their purview to interfere in diplomatic negotiations. They do have right(s) under the constitution to approve or disapprove, in the Senate, a treaty. But most definitely they should not have written the open letter to Iran\u2019s leadership that stated the United States Congress will not honor any agreement by yourselves and our President.<\/span><\/p>\n

What gall this Gang of 47 <\/em>has! And how dumb do they think the American people are? Furthermore Ayatollah Khamenei responding to the letter wrote \u201cAll countries, according to the international norms, remain faithful to their commitments even after their governments change, but the American senators are officially announcing that at the end of the term of their current government, their commitments will be considered null and void.\u201d I hate to say this, but he is quite correct and the senators have made a major miscalculation in publishing their open letter. There will be a backlash of negative opinion(s) and even maybe their fellow Senators will censure or at least discipline the Gang of 47<\/em> for doing something that borders, if not crosses the line, on violating United States Senate rules.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did they write the letter? Well I think that they want to block anything that may let President Obama leave office with a legacy. This is purely a political act of sabotage and should not be tolerated by the people who elected these Senators to office.<\/span><\/p>\n
