Are we what we think we are or do some just think that they are something(one) that they are not? The controversy that Rachel Dolezal<\/a> has created by saying she was black and she was President of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP until she resigned. While her not being black has nothing to do with her being in the NAACP, it has everything to do in the way she views the world around her.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Is being Black genetic or physiological? And if you are one of those who identifies as LGBT<\/a> does that qualify as being genetic or physiological? What is the answer to who we are? Is it are genetic makeup or is our self awareness more important in who we are and how others see us?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Let me start by saying Rachel Dolezal says that she started identifying herself as being Black at five years old. Her adopted siblings are Black and maybe she just imprinted herself physiologically as also being a Black person because of the racial makeup of her family. Yet she must have known in the back of her mind, at the least, that she was not Black. Her conscious thinking of herself being a Black person was not a good reason for her not to be a member of the Spokane NAACP nor the President of that chapter. Race has nothing to do with showing respect to others and should never be used as an excuse to put someone down.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I am not qualified to answer the question- Is being Black genetic or physiological? So I will defer to those who are medically qualified to do so. Here is an article on Racial Myths<\/a>. From a lay person\u2019s viewpoint I will say your genetic makeup has more to do with your race, than your physiological feelings of race.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being of the LGBT persuasion is still up for debate by medical professionals; IE is it a physiological condition or something in the genes. I could start quoting from different sources from now till the next century and it would not change who they are. What counts is that LGBTs should be shown the same respect as anyone.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Is our genetic makeup really about physical characteristics and not so much about the physiological ones? Too much emphasis has been put on our differences and not enough on our humanity. We must look past the physical and see the person inside.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who we are has more to do with the physiological than with genetics and all of us must realize that the person inside counts more than anything else.<\/span><\/p>\n

As for Ms. Rachel Dolezal trying to pass as Black when she is White; well I really do not think she fooled as many people as she thought. And the only one that she is hurting is herself. Self denial of your real self is not a good thing for anyone.<\/span><\/p>\n

You do not have to love someone that is different from yourself, just respect them for who they are.<\/span><\/p>\n
