How to tell that you are getting old!

Car 54 Where Are You

How to tell that you are getting old is the topic of today’s blog. I will start by telling you what happened to me recently. I went to lunch with a friend and when driving home I wanted to adjust my window. Well, I reached for and could not find the window crank; just then I realized that the car had power windows. That is what some might call a senior moment. While not being a senior myself I am getting there and thought I would write about this topic for my 100th blog.

Now if you know what a record is be it a 45 or LP (long playing), then you are old. And what about knowing what a CD is and I am not talking about a bank account. Or if you know how to operate a manual (transmission) a column shifter on the steering wheel you are surely old! Also, do you know what shit on a shingle is? If so you are very old; it is creamed chip beef on toast. And I only know about it from old movies.

How about if you know what a reel to reel tape recorder is and especially if you know how to work it. And do you know what an 8 track tape is or what a cassette tape is, then you are old. Or do know what a Polaroid is? It was an almost instant way of photography and it has no relation to today’s digital cameras.

You know you are a dinosaur when you remember the days of vacuum tube tester in your local pharmacy. Or how about the days of cars with fins, doesn’t living in those days make you feel real old? And maybe living through some distance history like the launching of Sputnik, the first satellite to orbit the earth or remembering the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas Texas.

I do not know about you, but it makes me feel old when I realized that a television show I remember is much older than I thought. The early 1960s were the time of the comedy shows, mine being Car 54 Where are You. I did not correctly remember the theme song from it and found it on the internet. Well I got a big surprise when they sang Idlewild instead of JFK (Kennedy) for the name of the airport in New York City. That meant that the program was pre-1964, IE before the assassination of JFK.

There are many other things that I could talk about but I am going to now talk about what happened today.

The Violent Assassination of Four Marines

Today four Marines were assassinated at a Navy and Marine Reserve Center in Chattanooga Tennessee by a lone gunman. The gunman has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Kuwait.

May the four Marines killed by this animal be at peace and my condolences go out to their families and friends. Also, may those wounded by this animal quickly heal and be able to enjoy their lives.

I wish I could still find joy that this is my 100th blog posting, but the actions of this monster has taken away the happiness of this occasion. May no matter what or how you worship, please find it in your hearts to remember the happy times and not dwell on the bad ones.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
