What now Mr. Trump? Carrier is laying off about 600 workers at one of its Indiana plants. This is the same plant that before Trump became President where a deal of $7 million in incentives was struck to prevent layoffs.
CNBC reported that “Carrier’s plant in Indianapolis is scheduled to lay off about 600 workers by the end of the year. That plant was the centerpiece of a deal touted by Trump in December 2016.
Before taking office Trump unveiled a deal with Carrier, a division of United Technologies Corp., which guaranteed that Carrier would continue to employ 1,069 workers for 10 years in exchange for $7 million in incentives.
The deal was treated as a victory and made up part of Trump’s plan to keep manufacturing jobs in America instead of moving south of the border to Mexico.”
The union representing the workers says that “they’ve received notice that 338 layoffs will take place on July 20 and 290 more employees will be laid off on Dec. 22, just before Christmas.” Plus Robert James who is the president of the local union said, “They’re going to Monterrey, Mexico.”
Well President Trump what are you going to do now? All I hear now is the chirping of crickets; what a shame it is that Carrier is getting incentives and its workforce is losing American jobs. Our President made it a big part of his campaign promises and it probably got the attention of the Midwestern voting public to swing their votes to him. Now many people are very disappointed with the President and his so called promises.
I would like the money incentives given back if any of it has been given to Carrier and the buying public should show its disapproval by not buying Carrier or its parent company’s, United Technologies, products. Hopefully they will get the message that the American people are fed up with the loss of jobs to other countries.
When possible you the consumer buying public should really try to buy American when you can; yes I know that too many products are no longer made here and that has to change for this country to survive. What would we do if China cut us off from all the manufactured products that come to our shores? Well I can tell you this, look at where many of the items that we daily purchase are made and you will soon realize that if we lose China as supplier, we will be in big trouble very quickly.
