Charge of the potholes

Potholes

With all the potholes forming this Spring I thought that a little poem would be appropriate. I based it on “The Charge of the Light Brigade” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

 Charge of the potholes

Half a mile, half a mile,

Half a mile onward,

All in the roadway of Craters

Rode the driver.

“Forward, the little car!

Dodge the potholes!” he said

Into the roadway of Craters

Rode the driver.

“Forward, the little car!”

Was there a person dismayed?

Not though the driver knew

Someone had blundered.

Theirs not to reason why,

Theirs but to crash and cry.

Into the roadway of Craters

Rode the driver.

Potholes to right of them,

Potholes to left of them,

Potholes in front of them

Crashing and damaging;

Pelted at with by stones and tar,

Boldly the driver rode and well,

Into the jaws of Wreckage,

Into the mouth of hell

Rode the driver.

Flashed all the lights glaring bright,

Flashed as they avoided the potholes

Dodging the potholes here and there,

Charging a light, while

All the drivers wondered.

Plunged in the roadway dust

Right through the potholes they rode;

Men and Women

Reeled from the bouncing

Wheels shattered and flattened.

But they rode on, but not without damage.

Potholes to right of them,

Potholes to left of them,

Potholes in front of them,

Potholes behind them

They Bounced and broken,

While driver and wheels went round.

The driver that had fought so well

Came through the jaws of Death,

Back from the mouth of hell,

All that was left of the car,

Left of the car. Wheels flattened and sundered.

Then the driver rode on, but not

Not the little car.

When can the glory fade?

O the wild dodging it made!

All the other drivers wondered.

As the little car came to a stop!

Honor the dodging the little car made!

Honor the driver,

Embolden the New Jersey driver!

And they all yelled,

“Fix the god dam potholes now!”

May your car not suffer the fate of being damaged from an encounter with a pothole. So stay safe and remember “The charge of the potholes.” The little car and driver gave their all.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
