Politics make strange bedfellows!

Impeahment of Trump

There is an old saying, “Politics make strange bedfellows.” Well today that is very true! Our wonderful federal elected officials have been working on impeaching the President.

While the Democrats say that there have been “High crimes and Misdemeanors” committed by the President Trump, the Republicans say no.

To further enlighten you here is what one of the founding fathers had to say on that subject, “In the Federalist Papers, Alexander Hamilton made the larger point that impeachment is directed at “political” offenses that “proceed from … the abuse or violation of some public trust.”CNN said of the charges, “On Tuesday, House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler introduced two articles of impeachment against Donald Trump. The first charges that the President committed an abuse of power to pressure Ukrainian President Zelensky to investigate Trump’s political opponent, Joe Biden. The second charges Trump obstructed Congress and impeded the impeachment inquiry by refusing to let senior officials testify or produce documents pursuant to Congressional subpoenas.

Republicans liken the impeachment hearings to a witch hunt and most deny the charges. Which then brings up the point that the Democrats control the House and the Republicans control the Senate. And the impeachment trial will take place in the Senate. This is why I used the quote about strange bedfellows in the opening paragraph.

If enough of the Republican Senate majority side with the President and against impeaching him, all the work of the Democrats will be for naught. So unless a good number of Republican Senators work with the Democrats, then Trump will not be impeached. But by trying to impeach Trump they, the Democrats, might be hoping to kill his chances for reelection.

Will some Republicans become bedfellows of the Democrats? Only time will tell. And yet I think that no matter what happens, we as a country will suffer from the political fallout. In what ways I do not even want to speculate!

And for those who want to know where the quote came from here is some information from Dictionary.com, “This saying is adapted from a line in the play The Tempest, by William Shakespeare: “Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows.” It is spoken by a man who has been shipwrecked and finds himself seeking shelter beside a sleeping monster.”

I have to ask just one thing, who is the sleeping monster, Trump or the Democrats?

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
