Is the Red Light Camera Program going to end in December?

[symple_spacing size=”80″]Are red light cameras going to disappear in December? My answer is maybe.

Why maybe, well Governor Christie seems to have changed his mind on these cameras. He now is leaning toward letting the program die rather than his previous stance of you ran the red light – pay your ticket. If he doesn’t change his mind again, then the red light camera program will die and many will breathe a sigh of relief.

Now the transportation committee chairman, Assemblyman John Wisniewski (Democrat of Middlesex), wants the program to continue and also sees a need for speed cameras. Assemblyman Wisniewski seems to be looking through Alice of Wonderland’s looking glass. The large majority of the tickets issued by these cameras have been for right on red violations, not the running of red lights. And to make matters even worse state law lets each municipality/city/town to determine on its own how long you have to be stopped before proceeding to make a right on red. There might or might not be a nearby sign telling you how long you have to sit there before turning. Allowing this is insane in my opinion. Without a totally uniform Motor Vehicle Code chaos results, someone was not thinking when they allowed this to happen. What is happening is if you do not wait the 4 seconds they have made law in the principality and only stopped for 3.9 seconds, guess what your car gets a ticket. You say my car gets a ticket, the answer is that really the owner of the car does, not the person driving it at that time. How can this be, well thank your politicians for that! Does it make sense, if it does to you I suggest you will change your mind when it happens to you?

As to the funds from all the tickets drying up when the program ends, too bad! The people of this state should stop being sheep and stand up for right not to be bled financially to death by laws that should not exist. The red light program really only exists for the benefit of the companies who run them, it is big business! Of course the principalities rake in a lot of money also and do not have to spend any money to make it happen. What a gravy train this program is and they all say it prevents accidents. It does not! People get very nervous around these cameras and panic stop as the light starts to turn yellow. Guess what happens next, a rear end accident is what and this is making things safer?

There is a white knight in this tale; his name is Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon (Republican of Monmouth). He has been fighting to get rid of these cameras for quite a while. He even has proposed a law, A3527, that would prohibit the Motor Vehicle Commission from giving out information on a driver’s license plate information with another state or to a company working for them. Don Quixote he is not!

So, if you want to get rid of these cameras support Assemblyman O’Scanlon and tell Governor Christie you want the program to end!

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
