New Jersey is the land of high taxes and it is official! Our wonderful state came in number 1 in worst property taxes. So lets all shout we’re number 1, we’re number 1! Oh, wait a minute that is bad not good. So go shout at your Legislators, Lower our taxes now! Come on… you can shout louder, do it until you are horse. It will not do any good, but it might make you feel better.
Some people think that the reason for the high property taxes in New Jersey is due to spending large amounts of money on our school aged children’s education. That is false, we are paying exorbitant salaries for the Superintendents, Principals, etc. But, very little gets to the teachers and the classroom.
The median salaries of the district superintendents are $167,500 per year and the principals make $116,725 a year. But the teachers only make $64,210 a year, quite a difference. A principal makes almost twice what a teacher does. This makes no sense to me at all. Our schools are too top heavy with administrators and expensive ones at that!
Why does everyone think that throwing money at a problem will fix it? One of the major problems is that the children are not studying because their parents do not care if they do! What is needed is more parental encouragement and supervision, not more money.
With 604 school districts; doesn’t it just make you wonder why so many? And some consist of only a school board without any schools the people of New Jersey have a real problem letting go of the false idea of home rule. Home rule is more of an illusion than reality as far as controlling our local educational institutions. Both the state and federal rules (laws) dictate what happens in our local school systems more than what the local school board does.
