Should Governor Chris Christie step down now that he is officially running for President? Two New Jersey Politicians have crafted a bill that would force him to just that.
State Senators Loretta Weinberg and Raymond Lesniak are two political animals that this state could do without. Ms. Weinberg was on the losing end of the last New Jersey gubernatorial election and Mr. Lesniak has had many a political run-in with Christie. With animosity in their hearts and political shenanigans in mind these two have the dumb idea that this is the time to introduce such a bill. This piece of legislation that would force any standing Governor to step down when running for another political office. They are just doing a bit of political grandstanding, for they know even if it passed both houses that Christie would never sign it. Would you be dumb enough to sign such a bill if you were the Governor of New Jersey, I would hope that your answer would be a resounding NO!
Now to get back to the real issue and how the people of New Jersey feel about Christie running for President and still being Governor of New Jersey. A poll, per nj.com, shows that fifty seven percent of New Jersey voters want the Governor to step down, also of those polled seventy six percent “say he is more concerned about his own political future than with governing the state.” This is a significant number shift toward the idea that Christie is being seen as concentrating on his Presidential ambitions and leaving the governance of New Jersey to his Lieutenant Governor, Kim Guadagno. When in reality Christie can govern the state from any place on this Earth through all the different modern communications methods available to him.
The real problem is that Christie has been neglecting the people of New Jersey for some time now. Be it real or just how you perceive how our Governor juggles handling both state business and running for President the people who he represents are justifiably upset. While it is possible to do both, no one can do both well. And what is more important to the people of New Jersey is tending to the problems within the borders of New Jersey, not the national ones a Presidential candidate has to talk about how they are going to solve them.
What is really a problem is that instead of coming up with real solutions to our many pressing problems that we have here in this state, those two dumbbells have to be political. Even if this bill were to pass and the Governor signed it I question if it would cause him to resign. Usually such laws do not affect the person(s) that are in office at the time that the law is enacted, but in the next term.
You might have gotten the idea that I am more than a little annoyed and in fact I a truly pissed off. This is not something that is that only happens in the Democratic Party. It has and will continue in the Republican Party too. It never fails to amaze me how stupid our politicians must think the voting public is. So remember this if you forget everything else, a politician is only as good as the public he or she serves.
