What we need in a President

George Washington

With all that is happening on the terrorist front, you might think that I would be talking about Paris and how the United States needs to do something more than what it has been doing. But, instead of doing that I thought it is time to talk about what qualities we need in a President in this day and age.

The only constitution requirements for those who want to become President of the United States are that you must be 35 years old, a resident within the United States for 14 years and a natural born citizen. There are no other requirements; such as experience in governing or having the political experience necessary to deal with Congress or other World leaders.

So what qualities should a Presidential candidate have then other the above stated ones from our constitution? Well the following is going to be what I think these qualities should be and will not always coincide with what you the reader might want.

The ideal candidate should have the political experience necessary to be able to deal with our Congress. That is he or she must be flexible in their way of thinking that allows for them to adjust for changes in conditions whither they be political or economic or anything else that might be relevant.

Next I know deep down in my gut that without having some real world knowledge of the world outside of the United States no President can deal effectively with other world leaders or understand why they can or can not do things like we do here in the USA.

Also he or she should be able to surround him/her self with those who not only can explain to the President, the who and the why, but the how; the needs of both this country and the needs of the world should be addressed. Having a President who surrounds himself with a bunch of ‘Yes’ men would be very a bad thing and would weaken our country; this of course must be avoided.

We also need a President who can think on his or her feet, as events can and do move very quickly these days. A President who can do this is very important in this day and age. What is wrong today is that many of the candidates do not have this quality and it is a very important one to have. After all the President is also the Commander and Chief of our armed forces, this does not mean that they have to have military experience at all. Just the ability to listen to his or her advisors and come to a well thought out conclusion(s).

I am sure that you the reader could come up with other qualities that your ideal Presidential candidate should have and I have not doubt that you do have such a list in the back of your mind. My hope is that by having you read my list of qualities, that it might stimulate you to come up with your own. Which I know will help you decide who you want as the next President of the United States.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
