Will the GOP Splinter?

Trump Romney McCain
There has been speculation from those in the know that the GOP might splinter! Will Donald Trump’s running for President be the cause for the Republican Party to schism? This past week Mitt Romney and John McCain railed against Trump calling him many things including being a fraud. Could this cause the party to split into at least two parties?

The Tea Party is a radical group of people within the Republican Party that are even more right wing than many of the Conservative member of the GOP and they have a philosophy that does not embrace compromise. It must only be their way and this is a problem for politicians know that there always has to be a compromise to get most of what they want. Yet this group does not seem to realize that this is real life and you can not stand on you principles to block something you do not like, just because you do not agree. Now with Trump as the seemingly frontrunner candidate, the pressure is building up between the Conservative wing of the party and Tea Party members.

Mitt Romney said, “Here’s what I know: Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud,” and he continued by saying “His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing members of the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House, and all we get is a lousy hat.

John McCain pronounced that ‘“I share the concerns about Donald Trump that my friend and former Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, described in his speech today,” said the Arizona senator and 2008 Republican nominee. “I would also echo the many concerns about Mr. Trump’s uninformed and indeed dangerous statements on national security issues that have been raised by 65 Republican defense and foreign policy leaders.’ And I must note that he prefaced the above by saying “warning that voters should think “long and hard” before making him commander in chief.”

Romney went on to say that “dishonesty is Donald Trump’s hallmark,” pointing to his “bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny, the absurd third-grade theatrics.” These are strong words from a man who tried to become President eight years ago and failed! In fact the use of such vindictive pronouncements makes it look to me that there will be a schism if Donald Trump does become the Republican nominee. And in fact with all the building political pressure coming from the mainstream conservatives within the party and Trump’s supporters I can not see the party remaining intact, at least for this election cycle at the least.

We could have not just two parties, but as many a four- Republican, Tea Party, Conservative Party and of course the Democrats. Trump would run under the Republican Party banner and the other two splinters could run their own candidates. The Democrats would love for this to happen as then Hillary or whoever is nominated would be guaranteed a win.

Will Republicans be smart enough to see that if the party does splinter they will all be losers or are those who hate Trump and his politics (as they may be) realize that they would be throwing away any chance for a Republican to become the President of this country?

It is my hope as a voter that there is no schism and that we have a election where personal political attacks are almost non-existent.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
