Trump’s made in America

Made in USA

Trump’s “Made in America” promise is one of the things that this country does need, but how it is done is just as important as why.

President Trump made a promise that he would concentrate on reviving domestic manufacturing to make “America Great Again!” It is not a new idea and many US based companies have been touting their American made products overseas and here at home. There are websites that show you where and what you can buy in American made products.

I for one am getting sick and tired of Chinese made products that are of such low quality that they fail to deliver what they promise. The Chinese government undermines US based manufacturing in two ways, firstly they do not enforce our patents on their home based companies and secondly shipping costs are supplemented to keep them very low.

These two things make it hard for US based manufacturers to compete with the Chinese and if you look at most of the products you are buying, you will find the words “Made in China” on most of them.

We Americans like to think that we play on a level playing field with the rest of the world. This is not true at all and many times we are at a great disadvantage due to economic tariffs and unfair trade polices of foreign governments, the Chinese being on the top of the list of those who will not allow us to sell their people many of our products. Electronics of course are on top of their tariff list along with motorcycles, what a wonderful trading partner we have in China!

Those fools who think that it is better to go to places like China to manufacture their products are only looking at the bottom line. They should look at the whole picture, for example how about the time lag to make a change in the product’s design or how long it takes to get it here to the USA or the fact that the Chinese will make what you want and then make more of your product on the same assembly line under their own name or sell the design to another Chinese manufacturer.

It seems that there is too much thinking about the money side of business and nothing to very little on how it causes other American businesses to close because they were making things that the US based manufacturers needed.

Now let me address something that comes up in the news from time to time, the under paying of employees and their working conditions. It is a well known fact that many companies in China and many other places in Asia exploit their workforce. The working conditions are deplorable and unsafe plus the workers work for long hours for very low pay. Did you know that many of the products made in China might be made with chemicals that are outlawed here? For example where do you think a lot of your recycled electronics end up to be taken apart for the gold and other valuable elements? China is where and the pollution from use of unsafe methods to recover these valuable recyclable materials is very bad there.

In summation we would be much better off if more products were made here and so would the rest of the world.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
