Something smells rotten in Trenton

Christie State of the State

Something smells rotten in Trenton and it is not the Delaware River! The politicos are really in high gear with their machinations. What I am talking about is how some things are slipping through the political process cracks.

For instance the renovation of the Statehouse was originally presented as only costing about $30 million, now it is $300 million and the authorizing of spending this amount of money was done by an eight-person State Capitol Joint Management Commission. The members of this commission are comprised of top staffers from Christie’s administration and from the offices of Assembly and Senate Democrats and Republicans.

On the same day as the authorization came through, the sale of bonds to pay for it was held. All without any bill to allow this, this is required by New Jersey state law! Here is the real problem with this other than the the illegal bond sale, under an arrangement the joint commission will for $1 lease the building to the Economic Development Agency (EDA) who will finance the projected $300 million project through bond sales and the joint commission will for $1 lease the building to the EDA, which will sublease it back to the commission, which will reimburse the EDA in the form of rent payments.

If this does not make your head spin, then you are a true political animal. A group of State Senators and Assembly members have brought a lawsuit to stop the sale of these bonds, but due to the fact that the sale took place the same day as the authorization the lawsuit was too late to stop the bond sale. All this is just so much garbage!

To both authorize the expenditure and have the sale of the bonds on the same day just stinks of corruption and political machinations. Christie is up to his neck in trouble as far as I am concerned. We should throw him out of office today, not tomorrow, but today!

The $1 lease of the statehouse and the sublease of it back just smells of political manipulations which are designed to avoid the letter of the law. The law says that a vote by the people of New Jersey must take place to authorize a bond sale and that did not happen, thus the lawsuit. It looks like Peter is paying Paul to rent back the statehouse and Paul is paying Peter to pay for the bonds to fiancé the renovations.

While the Delaware River does not stink the Statehouse sure does!

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
