North Korea keeps pulling the tail of the United States and the rest of the world with the most recent successful test of a long range missile that could carry a nuclear warhead.

This is the latest threat that dictator Kim Jong-un has made come true. President Trump has stated that “North Korea‘s actions show “contempt for its neighbours” and “all options are on the table” in terms of a US response.”

The response to our President and the world at large was made by Han Tae-song, North Korea’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva and he said, “Now that the US has openly declared its hostile intention towards the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, by waging aggressive joint military exercises despite repeated warnings … my country has every reason to respond with tough counter-measures as an exercise of its right to self defense.”

All this threat making, be it words or actions is only escalating the already strained situation on the Korean peninsula and the world could be hurtling toward some military action either by North Korea or by the United Nations (UN). Of course the way the UN works these days, it will be the United States and any allies that are brave enough to act that will do the actual fighting.

An editorial in the ‘The Korea Times’ stated the following, “Although the new scheme reportedly focuses not on a full-blown war but on limited warfare, a preemptive strike can escalate—unnecessarily and disastrously—in what could go from being a small skirmish into a large-scale war.”

Unfortunately ‘The Korea Times’ editorial is more right than wrong, I can not even fathom a response by the our country under President Trump for he has stated that “Threatening and destabilising actions only increase the North Korean regime’s isolation in the region and among all nations of the world. All options are on the table.” This is not just a war of words but of actions!

The United States and South Korea have staged exercises to show both countries resolve plus of course the United Nations has levied sanctions designed to make North Korea stop the testing of nuclear weapons and long range missile tests. Of course this has resulted in more defiant acts by Kim Jong-un and this latest missile test flight over Japan demonstrates that fact that Kim’s threat to attack Guam is not fantasy on his part, but could really happen.

Unless China and Russia can somehow dissuade North Korea from the course it is on, there is more than likely a very good chance of some kind of military action by that crazy dictator which could even lead to a nuclear strike against Japan, Guam or maybe even the United States.

For now I am going to find my lead lined underwear and start building a bomb shelter. It is driving me crazy listening to all the news reports and there is nothing I can do to impose some reason on the people involved in this insane situation.
