More greedy grabs for money

NJ Turnpike tolls

More greedy grabs for money from the taxpayer are on the horizon. The idea to raise money from the driving public again has been floated to make you the New Jersey driver pay to use our interstate roadways within the state.

A non-profit think tank called Fund for New Jersey is calling for tolls on interstate highways, leasing state toll roads to private operators and raising motor vehicle fees in a report called “Crossroads NJ.” In the report the think tank is promoting the idea that a transportation system that is kept in good repair helps the state’s economic well being. And it notes that the state doesn’t have enough funding to keep up with a backlog of projects that it has to do to keep our roads safe. They take into account that even with the 23 cent per-gallon state gas tax increase that took effect in last November there is not enough money to meet our transportation needs.

The report further suggests that some revenue raising ideas that were unpopular suggestions in the past, such as privatizing the Turnpike and Parkway are the answer to the raising the needed revenue. Governor Corzine had proposed just such an idea back in 2007 and it was dropped when it met strong opposition from both politicians and the public.

The Fund for New Jersey is suggesting that the fees for motor vehicle licenses and registrations are needed to improve the state Motor Vehicle Commission. The MVC needs to replace the outdated mainframe computer system made available by raising the aforementioned fees.

All of the above ideas are just ridiculous! We do not need more taxes, we need less and the politicians need to learn to do more with less money.

The report goes on to say that the tunnel to Macy’s basement needs to be built, the Gateway project. Plus they also want the replacement bus terminal in Manhattan to be paid partially by the taxpayers of New Jersey.

What are these idiots thinking? There are monies available already to fix our road system, so why this piece of stupidity? Well it seems that our politicians and other so called ‘Do gooders’ have not idea that we the public here in New Jersey have been taxed to death already!

It well past the time where we the people have to stand up and with one very strong voice say no to any of these very dumb ideas. For if we don’t our pocketbooks will become even emptier than they are now.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
