Our Rights are being Challenged!

Our rights are being challenged here in the United States everyday by those misguided individuals who think that they know what is right for everyone.

For example in New York City, “It is now illegal to threaten to call the immigration authorities on an undocumented person or to refer to said person as an “illegal alien” in New York City. The city’s Commission on Human Rights issued a 29-page directive last week explaining the new rules, which apply to workplaces, public accommodations, and housing. The punishment for violations includes fines of up to $250,000 per offense, according to the New York Post. But here’s the catch: To take action against a so-called perpetrator, the city must first prove his or her actions were motivated by hate.

This is not the only example, but I will leave it up to you the reader to find some of the others.

When we told England on July 4th 1776 that we were separating ourselves from them through a very daring document, we not only spelled out the reasons, but also the rights we thought that all should have. That document is the Declaration of Independence and the following still rings true today as it did then, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Unfortunately as some miscreants have entered the political forum and have lead those gullible individuals of the public on a path that could lead to our destruction as a country. The Progressive movement seems to ignore facts and make up their own at times and the Socialists are taking advantage of our youth, who are ignorant of the facts about what socialism truly is.

I will not delve into the world of they said, I said politics. What I will do is use the above quoted words from one of our most cherished documents.

Taking a look at the first sentence, you will notice that we are endowed with certain unalienable rights. And yet places like New York City (NYC) want to deny one of those rights, the right to freedom of speech. The first amendment to the US Constitution states that, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” And yet in NYC the right has been abridged by those of the Progressive bent! I know when this is challenged in court that will be overturned, this law can not be allowed to stand. And it does not matter that it is qualified by fact that the person(s) are motivated by hate, that is totally irrelevant.

Now notice in the aforementioned paragraph, towards the end, that it talks about governments ‘should not be changed for light and transient causes.’ That is exactly what is happening in too many cases. In the NYC law’s case this applies and shows us how badly government can become when politicians do not listen to the wants and needs of the people that they represent.

Also, local government passed laws in the name of gun safety. The second amendment of the Constitution clearly states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Our own US Supreme Court has already ruled that in District of Columbia v. Heller this amendment protects an individuals right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. Again something that the Progressive movement keeps trying to do, that is keep guns out of citizens hands.

Why does a small very vocal minority think that they have all the answers and that they are always correct in their thinking? Because we the people have let them get away with doing just that. It is time to no longer be silent and stand up for your rights or they will disappear!
