Washington DC a State?

Washington DC a state

The Democrats are hell bent on making Washington DC into a state. Why? Because the majority of people are poor and the Dems think that they will vote for Democrats for the federal representatives.

Being realistic is something these politicians are not. One big fact is that no taxes would be paid for the federal buildings within this new state. And that would create a very big problem. There is not a sufficient tax base to actually pay for the services needed for the residents of this new state.

Please understand that the Federal Government now heavily subsidizes the district. The majority of the people who live within Washington DC are poor and can not afford pay higher taxes. Plus there is no industry or big corporations that are there either. What there is a whole lot of foreign embassies. Again they will not be contributing by paying taxes. Their employees are exempt from paying income taxes, sales tax or property tax. With so many within the district they are a big drain on the police force which have to protect them.

Why people think that making a state of the district is purely political and the people who makeup the population are going to find out that they have been handed the dirty end of the stick by these progressive politicians.

I am sure that one thing that those who want Washington DC as a state have not taken into account is this fact. There are more than poor people who live in the district. There are many areas where well off people live and are these people more likely to vote? The answer is yes! Those in the poorer sections will vote, but not in the percentages of the richer sections.

So the Democrats wanting to create a state out of the District of Columbia will not necessarily result in members of their party being elected. Looking at the politics and voting distribution I note that there is a significant number of independents to swing the vote from Democrats to the Republicans. Yes, I know that Washington DC is very liberal. But I think that because they have not direct representation right now the people there do not care as much as they would if they became a state.

Of course I could be wrong, about the politics. Somehow I think I am not wrong about the inability of the District to be self supporting, via taxation.

We will all have to sit back and wait to see what happens.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
