If you have not already heard, a Long March Rocket-5B will fall from orbit on Sunday May 9th. Once again the Chinese Communist Party is sticking it to the rest of the planet.
From CBS News, “The 46,000-pound Chinese rocket Long March-5B recently launched the first module for the country’s new space station into orbit. Scientists have little idea where it will land as it orbits the planet unpredictably every 90 minutes, at about 17,324 miles per hour. As it soars through the atmosphere, appearing to tumble, it is slowly losing altitude.”
Here is the predicted track of where the rocket might impact the Earth. As you can see that most of the Northern Hemisphere is in this predicted impact area. And something worse is the fact the this rocket is designed not to burn up upon reentry. So it will be the largest man made object to fall to Earth since Skylab.
So I would recommend you to find some safe place to be when this Chinese rocket returns to ground. Let us all hope that it impacts into the ocean and not into any populated land area. I think that I will be practicing “Duck and cover.” Well it couldn’t hurt, could it? It worked for Bert the turtle.
