Open Space and Business

The New Jersey Shrinking Dollar.

[symple_spacing size=”80″]Question 2 on the ballot for this coming Tuesday asks if you the voter wants to dedicate another two percent of the monies collected from the Corporation Business Tax to create and preserve open space via an amendment to the state constitution. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well it is not, for one thing what revenue source will be used to replace the two percent taken and how will we know that these funds are not used for some other purpose. After all there is no such thing as a truly Dedicated Fund!

Of course this sounds like a great thing to vote for, but is it? I have to agree it will do things that need to be done, but the State of New Jersey is so far in debt that its’ credit rating is not that great. And what about fixing the economic problems we already have. Such as we do not have a great appeal to any businesses that are thinking of coming into New Jersey. We as a state are not thought as business friendly, in fact we are rated way down the list. So far down the list that we are last! Past administrations and political institutions are partly to blame for this situation and even today the no one wants to really address the basic problem. If more businesses could be attracted to the state, then there really would be no need for the two percent increase that Ballot Question Number 2 asks for.

Wait a minute! You say that if more businesses come to New Jersey then there is no need for this amendment? Yes, that is what I am saying and what is not known by most people is that small businesses are the backbone of the economy, not big business. So who do we blame for this situation and what can be done to fix it?

For one thing you can blame those politicians who are ignoring this very important economic problem and pursuing what they they consider the Hot Button issues that will get them reelected instead. Think of what they are doing as a magician’s trick, you know making you see only what they want you to. It is all an illusion and we the public are being mislead as to what is really important. After all if the economy of the state were to improve, all of us rich and poor would benefit.

Now what I propose is for this state to lower the Corporation Business Tax to a much more reasonable level and repeal laws that cause a lot of the red tape that businesses, small and large, encounter in the course of doing business.

OK, so what do I do? Do you vote Yes or No for this amendment, that is up to you. But, just remember this borrowing from Peter to pay Paul does not work! This amendment is not going to help as much as they want you to believe and I think they need to rethink how funding is done in this state first before making any more amendments such as this. Please note that this should not be seen as a Democrat or Republican issue, nor as a Liberal verses Conservative one either. It must be considered only on its merits.

That is my opinion – Jumpin Jersey Mike
