Well diversity is alive and well in the picks that Governor Elect Phil Murphy has publicly announced for his transition team. The team includes a number of minorities and women, I hope that Murphy is getting people that are well qualified and not just looking for minorities and/or women.
If Mr. Murphy is basing his picks so that he ends up with a bias towards minorities and women this shows me that he is not necessarily looking for the most qualified and/or experienced people that he can find. My hope is that the people that end up actually being part of his government will have the experience necessary to work as smoothly as possible with the civil service workers that actually run our state government.
Already Mr. Murphy has expressed and shown his acquiescence towards the teachers union (NJEA) and to me that is a bad thing. At the annual NJEA convention Murphy stated the following, “We are going to stop the underinvest in public schools.” That sounds nice, but Governor Christie and a number of governors before him did not do what Murphy wants to do because there is no way that enough money can be generated by the State of New Jersey to fully invest in our schools. The taxpayers in each school district would end up paying the onerous bill instead.
Well Mr. Murphy what is more important to the people of New Jersey, a diverse transition team or being realistic in how much money the people of this state have to pay to educate our children?
From NJ.com on the transition team, “The list also includes some old faces from both the waning Christie administration, like Jennifer Velez,, a Barnabas Health executive who’d previously served as commissioner of the state Department of Human Services. Also included: Woodbridge Mayor John McCormac, the state treasurer under Gov. Jim McGreevey and also a member of Christie’s first transition team; Communications Workers of America state director Hetty Rosenstein; and Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer.” So I do have to commend Mr. Murphy in that some of the opposition party is in his transition team, this is a very good move that I can applaud.
My big problem with the transition team makeup is that diversity for diversity’s sake is just too far left wing for me and the majority of general public (New Jersey) to tolerate. This idea is just ludicrous that it is not even funny, this kind of thinking is so narrow focused that it is dangerous and it is discriminatory against non-minorities. And that is just wrong!
