History

LGBT

History has nothing to do with gender, orientation or ethnicity. The LBGT community and the progressives think that it matters enough that they have persuaded two states to teach about those in this community in an historical context.

From NorthJersey.com, “New Jersey has become the second state in the nation after California to adopt a law that requires schools to teach about LGBT history in a move hailed by civil rights groups as a step toward inclusion and fairness. Under the measure, public schools must include lessons about the political, economic and social contributions of individuals who are gay and transgender.

Here is the definition of History per Merriam-Webster, “a chronological record of significant events (such as those affecting a nation or institution) often including an explanation of their causes.” So I can see that the LGBT community is represented because the definition specifically talks about significant events. But, my problem is that all communities should realize that history should not be taught emphasizing any one gender, orientation or ethnicity.

For example is it more important to say that Albert Einstein was Jewish or that he was the man that came up with the ‘Theory of Relativity?’ What I say and most historians would tell you is that it is the latter not the former that should be taught to our young. For it matters not whether Einstein was a Jew, Catholic or any other religion.

What I am trying to say that this overemphasis by any group is an effort in trying to say that we matter. I say of course you matter, that is not the issue. The issue is that not enough history is taught as it is and adding lessons on specific groups does not always enhance a child’s perspective of that group. If you want to make sure child knows about their heritage, then teach them yourself. Don’t use our public schools to do it.

Now don’t get me wrong, teaching history is very important, but using it to promote your social agenda is wrong. We need to teach about the things that happened that are significant to all and not one specific group. There have been those who were ignored, such as Dr Martian Luther King, Jr a man who helped not only his ethnic group, but showed the world that everyone matters and as such no one should be discriminated against based on race or any other way we tend to categorize human beings.

So let history be taught without bias and make sure to teach your children that special history that you think that they should know at home.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
