The Snow Storm

I thought I would talk about the snow storm. Before I do I just to tell everyone that I was under the weather last week. Feeling better now and nothing to do with Covid-19.

The storm started here in Central New Jersey well before the time that the meteorologist had predicted over the radio. It started to snow in the early afternoon and got progressively worse as nightfall came.

It became windy with the snow being driven from the south. My condo’s screen door was covered in snow and the siding looked like a snowblower had blasted snow onto the siding. At no time did my lights go out, thank goodness.

Below is a picture of what it looked like at the beginning of the storm.

Winter Storm Walk

It was not too bad walking. Although sleet was mixing in making my dog and I feel the sting of it when impacting any exposed parts of our bodies. Both of us were glad to get back inside away from the wind driven snow/sleet. It was no fun being out in such conditions.

The next day we went out for a walk and found that overnight the snow had more than just covered the ground. There was over 4 inches of snow already and the day was just starting. As the day went on the wind picked up and it was miserable to be out in the storm. My dog just wanted to go and then return to the warm condo. I can’t blame him one bit!

I must add that the snow seemed to be made up of frozen particles of icy snow, it certainly was not soft. More like walking on quicksand as it kept moving underfoot.

Very early Tuesday morning I was awakened by the snow clearing crew using their snowblower to clean off the sidewalk. After a while they moved on, I then was able to drift back to sleep.

Too soon it was time to wake up and start the day by taking my dog for his first walk of the day. While the sidewalk had been cleared off and it was still below freezing. Caution was best practiced while out and about that day. We were able later in the day to do our regular walk. Below is what it looked like then.

Winter Storm Walk 2

It was still snowing a little and as you can see the sidewalk was not completely clear (picture was taken on Tuesday February 2nd. And as of today, Wednesday February 3rd, our sidewalk is still icy and snow covered in spots. As is our roadways. For it has been snowing off and on since Sunday afternoon.

There was a light covering of snow on the sidewalk hiding icy spots underneath making walking a exercise in caution rather than the usual carefree surface that it is normally.

Tonight should be fun walking around in the dark with black ice present. I kind of envy the fact that my dog has four legs to keep him upright, while I only have two.

As I am no longer driving, at least for now, so I can not say how the main roads were. Although from the description from the radio they are much better than they were earlier in the week. For those who do not know I had a tear in the retina of my left eye in late October and am left with floaters that are causing vision problems still.

Take care walking or driving and stay safe.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
