Political electioneering gone awry

Assembly

This past Tuesday was Election Day and all of the Assembly seats were up for election. I received some election literature from the New Jersey Democratic Committee that went point by point on the positives and negatives between their candidates and the Republican incumbents. Well now I am going to refute the Democrat’s falsehoods point by point.

At the top of the page is a photo of what I received. Point one is that the Republicans are responsible for our bad economic conditions which made New Jersey next to last in job growth. The problem with that is that New Jersey has the highest taxes which discourage companies from moving here. Yes we are ideally placed geographically, but with such high costs to the employer who wants to move their business here. Who is responsible for this? Well it is more of the Democrats raising taxes and fees; they have been in power in the legislature for a very long time. And yes the Republicans do bear some of the responsibility also.

Point two, the Republicans candidates have not asked Chris Christie for the extra monies he is costing the state to travel all over the country. It is true, but if the shoe was on the other foot the Democrats would not be complaining. The money they are talking about is basically the costs for the Governor’s security detail, which he has to have even when traveling out of the state.

Point three, this is all about gun control and mental illness. Well again the Democrats have a small point in their favor, but this is really just a political move to make the Governor and the Republicans look bad. The Democrats do have to craft a better bill than the one they passed, it is poorly done in my opinion and gun control has proved to be a failure overall.

Point four, the Democrats talk about how the Republican candidates favor a system where the local taxpayer would pay for the burden of the State of New Jersey’s pension system. Again the Democrats say that the state should make all the required payments; my question is who do they think supplies the money? The answer is simple, we the taxpayers do! By paying in full all the back payment to the pension system we would not have money to do anything else, it is a very large sum of money that both Democrats and Republican Governors have failed to pay. And both political parties are responsible for this mess. This is again a case of the truth being twisted out of shape so much that no one can recognize what it originally looked like.

The truth is that this piece of political literature is half truths and dreamed up political charges that should never have been published. It did accomplish its purpose and caused (maybe) both Republican candidates to be voted out of office. It is just political mudslinging at its best and worst. This is why I advocated in a blog I wrote called Political machinations that there must be a truth in campaigning law.

Just so everyone knows, I am not a Republican nor do I support our current Governor or a majority of the Democrats that are in office. The Democratic Party was aided and abetted by the NJEA in this election and past elections. The Republican Party might be the home of those who have money, but they surely do not spend any of it to get their candidates into office.

Just for your information, here is a link that lets you see what the election results were.

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
