Shut the door on illegal immigration!

Statue of Liberty

It is time to shut tight the door on illegal immigration, no other country allows those who cross their borders to stay. Yet her in the ‘Good old’ USA we have an outlook on immigration that is just plain crazy!

We allow those who come here uninvited to become citizens and we bend over backwards to provide services for them plus we do not require these people to speak or even learn our language. Our driver’s tests are in multiply languages even though many street signs are in English, this is plain stupid. There is no reason that English should not be the official language of the United States. Go to France and you will find that official documents are in French only, in Germany it is German, so why not have English as the official language? Because the bleeding hearts are against it and they do not seem to live in a world that deals realistically with immigration.

I am not saying that we should restrict immigration into the United States, what I am trying to get across is that we can not just allow people to cross our borders without the proper processes being fulfilled. Our current immigration policy is too expensive (for the immigrant), takes too long to apply and get approved and finally it is expensive to immigrate here.

The basic process to legally immigrate is as follows:

In most cases, someone must “sponsor” you, or file an immigrant petition for you.

  1. Once the petition is approved, and there is a visa available in your category, you apply for either a Green Card or an immigrant visa.
  2. You get a medical examination.
  3. You go to an interview.
  4. You receive a decision on your application.
  5. And if approved you have to pay a USCIS immigrant fee before you’ll receive your Green Card. So that you can work here.

The refugee and asylum applicants go through a different process and I will not go into that here.

Immigration policy needs to allow those who want to come here to work a temporary job, such as a farm field worker, a streamlined process that does not include any immigration fee for the worker. I think that the employer should pay some token fee instead and there needs to be a reliable method to keep track of these workers so that when it is time for them to leave they actually do so.

As to those who want to come here and eventually become citizens, the process needs to be streamlined and the cost to the immigrant needs to be much more reasonable. Also those who come here illegally should never be allowed to become citizens and must be not allowed access to our healthcare and welfare systems. This may sound cruel, but those who come here illegally are a drain on our resources and take them away from citizens who should get them.

I have heard proposals of a card based system that would require the prospective employee to present to the employer to show that they can legally work here in the United States. Many on the Left are against this and they understand that such a system would cause the illegal immigrants to leave on there own. For without the ability to work they would not have the means to live here.

Employers must be held accountable and be made to ensure that their workers are legally here to work. There must be stiff fines and penalties. For without them employers would continue employe those who do not belong here.

Please do not misunderstand that I do want immigration to be restricted or complicated, just reasonable and easy to do. We all must remember that this is a nation build by immigrants!

That is my opinion- Jumpin Jersey Mike
